UN: Guatemala Invites the World to the Mayan New Dawn

United Nations, May 14 (Prensa Latina) Guatemala invited the world to celebrate “the new dawn of humanity in the heart of Mayan civilization” on December 21, according to the Mayan calendar.

The call was launched on Monday at the UN by the Guatemalan Minister of Culture, Carlos Batzin, and the Director of Guatamala Tourism, Pedro Pablo Duchez.

At a press conference, they also announced the first preparatory meeting of the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples to be held in December, 2014 in Guatemala City.

On December 21, 2012 the world will live a very important event according to ancient knowledge and the traditional recording of time by indigenous peoples, said Batzin.

That day the thirteenth Baktun will culminate, which is a period of 400 years in the Tzolkin calendar, and will be a new dawn, a natural regeneration of Mother Earth which opens opportunities to rearrange the life of human civilizations, Batzin added.

Meanwhile, Duchez announced the Ruta de los Baktunes project that is a tour of important archeological sites of Mayan civilization (Kaminal Juyú, Iximche, Qumarkaj, Takalik Abaj, El Baul, Cerro Kajyup, Quirigua, Ceibal, Tikal, Uaxactun, and Yaxhá Ixlú).
